Agriculture

As a driver of economic and social growth, agriculture is central to our vision for regional development.

Developing and Sustaining

Constance La Gaieté plays a key role in Mauritian agriculture, managing an extensive land bank that shapes both the rural and economic landscape. Historically rooted in sugarcane, with an annual production of 10,000 tonnes of sugar, our activity continues to evolve to meet today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.

We are diversifying our production and integrating agriculture into a broader regional development strategy.

Our model balances crop production with livestock. For more than 30 years, we have operated poultry farming supplying local markets. Some of our non-mechanisable lands are dedicated to deer and cattle breeding, as well as soil-based and hydroponic food crops.

A CLEAR COMMITMENT

We are adapting our agricultural model to meet current challenges while remaining connected and useful to our region. Constance Agriculture is moving towards a more integrated approach, where every plot has purpose, profitability supports sustainability and agriculture strengthens local economic and social development.

Our Focus Areas

Constance Group has grown alongside the sugar industry since its earliest days. Today, nearly 5,000 acres of land are under sugarcane, producing up to 100,000 tonnes annually. Combining mechanised operations with manual harvesting on the most delicate terrains, we continue to write our story through an industry that has been part of our journey since 1882.

SUGARCANE CULTIVATION

Driven by a spirit of initiative and a desire to adopt new agricultural practices, part of our land is dedicated to alternative crops. We harvest around 600 tonnes of Victoria pineapples annually and also produce peanuts, watermelons and hydroponic lettuces.

DIVERSIFICATION

Our livestock operations reflect our commitment to supporting regional needs while exploring new avenues. Our agricultural activity rests on three pillars: poultry, deer and cattle. Poultry farming, in partnership with Avipro, exceeds 2,500 tonnes annually. We maintain a herd of 2,000 deer and approximately 100 cattle.
